Cintaku Pada Skripsi Berat di Ongkos

Assalamu'alaikum.......
Selamat menjalankan Ibadah Puasa Bagi Umat Muslim Seluruh Dunia....^_^

Kemaren pas 10 pertama, teman saya nanya "Dek Lia gimana? Udah skripsi? Kapan sidang?"
Saya pun menjawab, "InsyaAllah segera, ini mau penelitian, nanti kami minta bantu ya, ehhehe"
"Lho, dek lia kok biasa aja ditanya skripsi, kalau orang lain marah dia"

Brosuuuuurrr....^u^

Assalamu'alaikuuuuum......^-^

Apa kabaaar?
Alhamdulillah, luar biasa, Allahu Akbar!!

Hiks...

Akhirnya, saya memutuskan membuat tentang "cuci tangan pakai sabun".

Belakang

Smoga bermanfaaaat....^-^

Say Something About The CCU Class (feedback)

Instruction:
Dear Class,
This will be our last online learning program. Please provide your feedback about our class in this section. You may suggest about how to improve learning CCU in the future, our online feature etc. Please feel free since this section will not be graded. I want to read your feedback by next Wednesday.
My Feedback:
Truly, this is my first virtual class. first, i think it will interesting, yes, but just until the 3rd posting. then one thing that make me keep staying at this class is the book (Brooks'), that is the great book.
first, i think you will guide us by the virtual ways, i mean, i think you will respond our post, tell our fault, and so on. yes, it was, but just in the first reading posting. then until the rest class i didn't know where you were. you just comment one statement about the class is over or another one. i agree with my friends.
but, this class give me a lot things about cultural intelligence, and i think that it will be more if the class has the meetings.

Thank You so much and sorry sir...^_^

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (Reading 12)

TASK:
Starting from today, I want you to come to a brief conclusion from what you have read or learned throughout the semester. Your time to write is until next Tuesday, Dec 28, 2010. Thanks.
MY ANSWER:
Of course, there are much conclusions of this class activity, also from reading the book. I found a lot of new intelligence knowledge of how to interact with another people that have different culture. I know that I did stereotypes of some people and after reading the book I realize it maybe a wrong stereotypes. Then, the five basic scales make me able to range my self and sure another scale also helps. The important of culture intelligence in daily life make me aware about "what do I know about another's".
From Brooks I know a lot things that have to do and don't in applying cultural intelligence. Every people also have a communication style that we have to know and understand how to translate and face it. One thing that makes me happy is I can increase my cultural intelligence with some tips, trick, and also effort that mentioned by Brooks to be better than now.
In my opinion, cultural intelligence is not enough with scale and reading (knowledge) but it is also about how capable you are in using that intelligence in daily life.
NOTE: THIS IS THE LAST TASK...AHAHHAHAHA

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (Reading 11)

TASK:
Based on your last reading (I know each of you had read different pages), I want each of you to come up with at least 5 important points that you can derive from the text in PART 6. The most important points according to yourself.
The last day to post is by next Tuesday Dec 21, 2010.
MY ANSWER:
After reading part 6 of this book, I found a lot of important points, five of them all are:

1.   cultural intelligence involve three components: knowledge, awareness, skills.
2.   be mindful and respectful of my international partner's title, their formality rule, and protocols is important. Choose a formal one is better than an informal.
3.   focus more on what is said than how it is said. In some cases it is really important.
4.   keep it simple, speak slowly and clear, and take it easy to avoid miscommunication from Brooks is important to do I think.
5.   learn the six basics (yes, no, please, thank you, hello, and good bye) from another language is important.

there are much more another important things, but I think the 5 above is the most.

INSIGHTS OF OTHER CULTURES

Nah...di sela-sela tugas yang membosankan...nulis-baca...baca-nulis.
Akhir'a tibalah tugas yang agak seru dikit. Hehehe...

Here My Answer:

Film: Unstoppable Marriage

a. Information about the film
Unstoppable Marriage is a 2007 South Korean romantic comedy film. It stars veteran actors Kim Su-mi as Mal-nyon and Im Chae-mu as Ji-man alongside pop star and television actress Eugene Eun-ho and Ha Seok-jin as Hwang Ki-baek. This film tells about sweet and easygoing Eun Ho who grew up in a normal middle-class household with a strict and traditional father. Willful plastic surgeon Ki Baek was born into a wealthy family, and has the ego to match his income. Their two worlds collide quite literally when they meet through a paragliding accident. It's a classic case of opposites attract as they fight, falter, and fall in love, but their incompatible families are determined to break them apart.

b. Summary of cultural differences
The film shows how assimilation happens. There are some examples that pop up in this story. How a traditional toilet (squat toilet) changes to the modern toilet (flush toilet) and how Korean thinks that is strange if you must sit while you are defecating and how come the water flushes from inside of toilet. In Korea if you are not satisfied with part of your body, it can easily change by plastic surgery, almost everyone do this so you do not need to be ashamed and moreover their mother ask them and give the money.
The Korean still believes forecaster topology. They use chopsticks to eat, sometimes (for special food) they use fingers and spoon like us. In the movie, they show how the man family invites the woman family and the man family accustomed to using fork and knife and the traditional family use their hand. The traditional way use a short table and sit on the cushion on the floor. The movie also introduces traditional Korean doll that is made of mulberry paper and recycle paper. Right now, the Korean themselves do not respect to the craftsman like the first Korean. Their life tends to the western and fell positively to the western culture.

c. What can I learn from the film
From the film, I realize although we are in modern life, we should appreciate and know our culture. The western is not always better than the eastern culture and vice versa. In this film, I know how important to know another culture for daily life, appreciate each other help us life harmoniously. The film reminds me that "don't forget our own culture and don't underestimate another's" we must know the philosophy of the culture itself. It makes us the value of the culture.

d. Conclusion
Cultural intelligence is important, not only the intelligence of another but also of our culture. If you appreciate your own, people will appreciate yours, also appreciate another's make people appreciate yours.

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (Reading 10=Reading Day)

TASK:
Dear Fellas,
I would like to say "Happy Islamic New Year 1432 AH"
Today is your free reading day. I want you to read part 6, no specific page, as much as you want. No postings about the reading content are required. However, on Dec 14, 2010 next Tuesday I want you to say in this conf. room that you have read something from part 6, for instance 'Sir I have read part 6 page 180 to 220, or page 177 to 190. Please enjoy your time for this week and start preparing your portfolios.
Cheers
Instructor
MY ANSWER:
Sir, I have read from page 177 to 202.
Thanks...^_^

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (Reading 9)

TASK:
Dear Folks,
After reading the cultural intelligence book all this time, I believe you start to have something in your mind about cross-culture. Therefore, this time you are going to read completely PART 5 from page 153 to page 176. It is quite much reading, but this time I will let you finish the reading until Monday December 6, 2010. Just tell me the most interesting thing you have read in this part according to your own opinion. I will be very glad if the reading will open your eyes in seeing the world and more importantly if this reading will give you the idea of your future thesis.
Happy reading
MY ANSWER:
I am interested in "learning about others' culture styles" chapter. Brooks tell how we ask someone and how to explore our knowledge about others'. I realize that we can't generalize all people. I agree with Brooks about ask our conversation partner where is exactly their country or city, don't try to play we are smart. I also not really sure, my partner will know where is Indonesia.
I am interested to know about others' culture much. After reading this part I know that it isn't just a culture but also people have a communication style. We can't make stereotypes of someone because their communication style, although a lot people from the same country has almost same communication style, but it depend on their personality and idealism.

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (Reading 8)

TASK:
Dear Class,
Welcome back to the class after celebrating your Eid. I hope everything will be fine for the next half of class. We are going to meet physically on the last day of class where you will submit the portfolio with all your assignment and you will sign the final examination sheet. I will tell you the date of our meeting later.
O.K. for today's class we are going to pay attention on the issues of people and communication. Here you will also read some issues in the Muslim world as well as issues in the international world.
Read from page 131 - 151.
Then, try to rank yourself. What is your own reasoning style? How do you prefer to think and reason? give example.
How can you change your own style to prevent any miss-communication?
Which of the three communication styles (taking turn, interrupting, halting)is closest to your own? also give example from your daily communication.
Happy reading.
MY ANSWER:

After reading the book and rank myself, here the result:

1.   people and communication issue
- freedom vs identity
I think I'm in 2 of this scale. I think freedom doesn't mean what you want to be is opposite with the rule (eq. religion). It is about how you walk on that rule, forced ao feel free. I know what and why I do that things (wearing hijab, shalat, working outside, and so forth). The sky is the limit of freedom and the rule (religion or culture) can be the way to walk on the sky, it is just how we walk on.

- pace of life
I'm at 3. I think I need more than 24 hour per day. So, how can I keep moving slowly? But I know when I need a refreshing time and I do it regularly.

- courtesy, protocol, formality
I'm little bit strict with these, I'm at 8. But sometimes, there are protocol and formality that I broke, just for fun and feel more exited. Hahaha.

2. Reasoning style
Maybe, I'm the one with 'start with the conclusion. When I found something, I will make a hypothesis of that topic and I will search as much as information about that. Than, I conclude it. But sometimes, my hypothesis is wrong, so I change it because after looking up the information data, I know the right one.

3. cognitive style and communication.
I'm the straigt to the point person. Example: whwn I was at examination test, my friend asked the exam test answer and I say no. then I tell to her/him, if you want to study together before exam test, feel free come to me but in the exam test I wouldn't help you.

4. communication style
- rational or emotional
I'm at 5. I do hide my emotions many times, but when I think the one that make me angry must know that I am angry, I will show it directly and I will tell him/her the reason why I was angry.

- physical space
I'm at 9. I'm a Moslem and I think hospitality and friendliness is not just about the distance, there are a lot things that could show our feeling.

- comfort with silence
I'm a talk active one. I'm at 7.

- flow of conversation
I'm at 3 maybe. My mind will interrupt something fast, but I hold it to word. I wait until the end of another speaking turn because of politeness. Sometimes I forget what I want to interrupt after all finish, so I try to point it by writing. for example: i will wait until my friend end his presentation or answer the question in discussion then i will tell my opinion.
to preventany miss-communication, i will make my sentences and my voice clear, also i will confirm to my speaking partners that is them understood or not.

note: see...ternyata tak sia-sia...akhirnya disuruh buat fortopolio.

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (reading 7)

Mungkin keduanya. :(

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (reading 6)

TASK:
First please read from page 99 - 105. Start from ways to view the world to Cultural Adjustment Process. I believe that the way Brooks Peterson explaining this book is very easy to read. Tell me what do you get from the reading in general? Where are you now?
MY ANSWER:
After reading the book (p. 99-105), I realize that in increasing my cultural intelligence need time and process. Of course, there are many ways to change it. When we think our way is the best that is natural if we refuse to adjust another way. Brook analogizes it as someone who looks for his car keys. When he found them, he naturally stops looking at the keys. It will be the big thing that we must change.
Brook describes the evolution of our thought process from William Perry, the psychologist.
1. Dualism: we see the world just in black and white term. We know two side of cultural differences. Our ways is the best.
2. Multiplicity: we know more side. We tend to the new one and feel negative for ours.
3. Relativism: this is the step when we appreciate other culture but in this term we just recognize multiple perspectives as others.
4. Committed relativism: here, we take the ways are the best for us. We may exactly understand there are the best for us and another people has their own best ways.
I think I'm in relativism term. I have one more stage and I will do my best to reach it, because I realize it is important to me and my life.

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (Reading 5)

TASK:
Please read from p. 87- 99.
This time your reading is getting more important. We are arriving at the term "Cultural Intelligence." We'll try the define the term but based on your own reading and also try to get one best intelligence or multiple intelligence theory.
In addition, see the table on page 96, read the item in the table carefully and try to rank yourself.

Instructor
MY ANSWER:
Cultural intelligence is ability to use skills and qualities appropriately when you interact with someone base on culture side. It is not only something that we had but also it could be ability to learn, understand, and think about everything that faced to us by cultural approach.

I agree with Howard Gardner, psychologist, about 'there is more than one way to be smart'. Everyone has thing that they are expert in. the carpenter maybe will not has the same musical intelligence with the musician and vice versa.

The multiple intelligence categories of Gardner's are really important, but it is impossible to have that various categories at once at one person. We need a process and someone maybe will get a good score in two or three categories. However, we must know and give our best effort to reach at least four things that are mention by Gardner:
- Speak a bit of their language, although just how to introduce your self or say hello, it shows our interest.
- Know how closely to stand (and other nonverbal behavior), to make our partner comfort and avoid unpleasant behavior.
- Know about your own culture style, it is important because how could you know another's and omit your own.
- Know how your cultural style meshes with those of others, it makes your relation closer.

After ranking my self, I think I need improvement at some points, such as comfort with uncertainty, ability to trust when dealing with the unfamiliar, and extroversion, creativity.

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (reading 1)

Assalamu'alaikum....

Eh salah. Maksud'a dalam klasnya ada tugas reading (Buku Cultural Intelligence by: Brooks Peterson) tiap minggu'a. Tugas Autobiografi, nonton film, dll.

Ini adalah tugas reading pertama saya:

TASK:
For this specific date please accomplish reading Brooks Peterson book from page 15 - 27. From What is Culture up to Stereotypes and Generalization. After reading you have to post something (in a paragraph or two) under this conferencing topic based on your understanding on the reading. Please be free to comment on other students' postings since this will add to your participation grade in the class.
Remember not to copy from the book or other friends' postings, but rely solely on your own mind. I will read each posting you make carefully to determine the level of your reading activity.
Happy reading.
MY ANSWER:

After reading the book (page 15-27), I'm really impressed by the author about his perspective about culture. Actually, I drew a tree last meeting when you ask us to draw something. But I don't realize that the tree have the same thing like the tip of iceberg. The tip of the tree is inside of the tree there are bird's nests, fruit, and so on that we can't see if we just stay behind the tree. Just climb it and you will find a lot thing that really interesting. Not only find it but also you can touch it and eat the fruit.
That's why we should know the tip (value, attitude, philosophies, etc) of another culture so we can communicate and have a good relationship.
Another thing that I agree with the author is stereotypes couldn't represent all member of one group of people. Realize or not, stereotypes influence behavior. For example: I have a friend that consistently late more than 20 minute every appointment that we made. So, the stereotypes that pop up in my mind is he/she is not discipline. The stereotype make such as an alarm in my mind that it is useless if I'm on time. As a result, I do the same thing with him/her when I have appointment with him/her. Of course we couldn't judge all of his/her member family or the people that come from the same town have that stereotypes.

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (reading 2)

TASK:

Dear Class,
Again to continue from last week class, please read page 28 - 63 of Cultural Intelligence book. I want you to post based on your understanding on the following sub topics as a guide:
- Do cultures change over time = what does the book say about that and what do you say?
- Five basic culture scales = what are they, what each scale means, and how do we apply them?
- Every culture ranks somewhere based on the five scales. Tell us where is the position of your own culture?
Your postings are not limited to the above, but I want you to expand freely according to your own opinion and understanding.
I will close the class as usual by mid-night tomorrow. So please do your reading carefully. Also, do no forget to submit your autobiographies to both my e-mail and class schedule of this ICA. I will not accept any assignments turned in after the due date.
Good luck.
Instructor
MY ANSWER:

I get some point after reading the book:
1. The book says that the culture change over time but also culture remain the same over time. I like Brooks analogy about that, a maple tree remains a maple tree although the leaves color change everyday and the branch was fall and another branch grow up. That is culture. We know about assimilation and acculturation, and I agree if some culture change but the new influence must filtered and become acculturation not assimilation.
2. Five basic culture scales that tell in that book are:
- Equality vs Hierarchy
This part means some culture that base on equality more flexible, open minded with another person opinion and treat the men and woman in same way. The hierarchy culture prefer to military ways and bossy
-   direct vs indirect
The culture that base on direct style more direct in speaking and say what they want, they don't really count another feeling and they avoid the wrong interpretation of what they are saying. The indirect one more polite in show their feeling, they could say yes in the appropriate way in their opinion for something that means not. We must really careful in interpret their words.
- individual vs group
There are some advantages and disadvantages of these two points. Individual need when we are not in group, we are not always in group when we must make some individual decision. Also we are as social being, we could not always alone. We need another people to open our mind. The more they opposite with us, the more they have things than we don't think about. Be in the middle of these two points.
-   task vs relationship
The culture that take task style commonly use stereotypes and hard worker and in the serous case they are perfectionist. The relationship style is open minded and has a goog relation and communication with other. They are little bit lazy.
-   risk vs caution
a risk style is more creative and innovative. They think what the future would need but they usually inconsistent in the final of their decision. The caution one is more careful and slowly. There are too afraid to take the final decision but sometimes it needed.
3. in my opinion, my culture there are in 8, but I think that will change soon, I saw that my culture will get in 6 or 5 because of acculturation.

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (reading 3)

TASK:
Today you are going to know how important culture in our everyday life is. Please read page 63 - 72. I believe that the reading is not so hard for you even though you are practicing the teaching. Tell us your opinion and ideas after you read this part. It will be good if some of you want to share the story when you encounter an awkward situation in meeting new people. Have you ever got together with a person from other culture and you felt that you don't "click" because of cultural style difference?
Happy reading
MY ANSWER:
Culture is really important in our daily work and life. Whatever your job, you need to know cultural differences. In daily life, we often face this problem. It can come from inside differences of country or from another country. We can't generalize people of all country have the same cultural programming. Of course, everybody needs food, but the way they eat it can be different, for example, each culture has their own table manner.
My experience about cultural differences is when I was a volunteer at Al Kahfi (youth center). I had Japanese language class with the native. My teacher, Miss Atsuko, is always on time. When some of us (Acehnese students) came late or didn't come, she would angry and said that why we didn't text her for our lateness or absence. The Japanese will think that we got an accident or another bad thing happen to us. They belief that it's impossible you can't send a SMS, she said that if we didn't have cellphone credit, we could took our friend's, our parent's, or someone else that has. It's big problem for Japanese if we don't text them. By the time, they are accustomed to our lateness without information and said, "Oh yeah, Acehnese."
they did stereotypes, aren't they? Not all Acehnese do that.

My Cross Culture Understanding Task (reading 4)

TASK:

See the world and then think.. do you know them? Imagine yourself as a businessperson who travels around the world, will you do fine in Sydney, Hongkong, Singapore without any cross-cultural awareness?
Please read from p. 72 - 85. Then write down your thought here.
Thanks

Instructor
MY ANSWER:
The more I see people, the more I don’t know about them. There are too much things different, in every little things. Just a little but they are really important. If I were an international business person without cross-culture awareness, it would be the same as I throw my self into a crocodile cage. It will be useless spent a lot money to expand my business. Everything will not run well, just wait it will be a bad thing. A business world is all about how you can treat people, your employees, business partner, costumers, and so on. You need more cross-cultural awareness than another one. Things that make world shrinking are technology, media, telecommunication, and so forth. These will help you, but you must know how to make these tools work for your business or life by cross-culture understanding.
